Dear Healthy-Health Customers,
Our industry is changing, and with these changes come
a variety of challenges that must be met. The challenges for each of us as suppliers
of dietary supplements and herbal extracts is to insure that quality and safety
are not compromised while meeting the exploding demand for these products by
the consumers. This challenge will continue to be met head-on by Healthy-Health.com
Our manufacturer of Healthy-Health supplements has continued
to expand their laboratory facility by using state of the art analytical equipment
and by expanding their highly competent staff in the quality control and quality
assurance departments.
In their laboratory you will find samples of raw materials
from qualified vendors such as Roche Vitamins, Starwest Botanicals, Indena,
Ashland Chemicals, Interhealth, Farbest USA, Henkel Vitamins and Optipure. These
samples along with other raw materials are removed from their containers and
sent to the lab for analysis before they can be released for processing.
Latest state of the art Infrared Spectrophoto-meter (IR), equipment is used
during scanning to identify raw material components before they are weighed
out for further processing. This computer-aided instrument uses techniques that
measure the absorption of infrared radiation by a sample, which is then compared
to a library of known compounds. If an incoming raw material matches its proper
"scan", then the sample is released for further evaluation. If it
does not match, or has an unknown contaminant, the entire lot is rejected.
More testing is performed with the Disintegration Tester. This is how we find
out how long the tablet takes to come apart. It simulates the intestinal tract
by bobbing the tablet up and down in a basket type apparatus in body temperature
water. This test is done according the United States Pharmacopeia.
In a temperature controlled Incubator you will find materials that are being
tested for purity using microbiological procedures that check for E. coli, Conforms
and even Salmonella. Today, nothing seems to be growing- that's good news!
Another procedure called Thin-Layer Chromatography or TLC. This is how all of
the botanicals are being "fingerprinted"
This technique separates out plant constituents using silica plates that are
placed in a solvent. As the sample is carried up the plate by the solvent, the
components separate and form a unique pattern on the plate. TLCs are fast becoming
one of the best techniques for identifying plants such as Echinacea and Golden
Seal. Our methods follow those of the German and British Herbal Pharmacopoeias
and other reputable sources.
An HPLC is another equipment used and is short for High Performance Liquid Chromatography.
This instrument is used to quantify levels of vitamins and herbal components
using a technique that separates out compounds in a column and then detects
their concentrations using special types of spectrophotometers. For instance,
a complete B multiple can be analyzed to insure that the stated milligram or
microgram quantities of Vitamins B-1 or B-2 are met.
Another new computer-aided UV-Vis Spectrophotometer that measures ultraviolet
and visible light absorption by a sample. Currently this instrument is being
used to test St. John's Wort for total Hypercine content and Bilberry for its
anthocyanidin level. These herbs cannot be released to manufacturing area without
these important tests that insure quality and potency.
Why Pharmaceutical Grade Quality In Supplements Is Important
Most health conscious consumers fail to understand the importance of using pharmaceutical-grade
supplements. For example, many discount products use low-grade vitamin C imported
from China that may contain traces of toxic arsenic, lead and iron. Health conscious
people often take large quantities of vitamin C every day, so it is crucial
that they use a pharmaceutical-grade vitamin C that has gone through 18 purification
steps to remove all possible contaminants. Our manufacturer will always use
Pharmaceutical Grade Quality components if that component is available in this
grade.
If you take high doses of nutrient supplements over an extended period of time,
it is critical that the nutrients contained in these supplements be of the highest
purity. Consistent purity can only be obtained by mandating that the nutrients
contained in the supplement are manufactured to meet pharmaceutical standards.
Our manufacturer that produces our Healthy-Health products is an FDA-approved
facility and has been in business for over 50 years, and fully understands the
importance of quality and integrity to the longevity of a company. The facility
is also is proud member of the NNFA Tru-Label program and the American Herbal
Products Association (AHPA). The plant will continue to expand in-house and
independent lab testing in order to insure that all products meet the highest
quality standards that our customers expect. We look forward to our continuing
relationship with all of our customers.
Respectfully yours,
The health team at www.Healthy-health.com
